Fat is an inefficiency. Nature is too slow compared to the human mind when it comes to shedding inefficiencies. The purposes which fat served in extreme climates have no place in the modern society. The only extremities are faced by the mind.
Muscles are much more efficient. They deal in the ‘here’ and the ‘now’, while fats deal with the ‘in case in the future’. True extremities in the modern human society are always very short-lived, and more extreme than in the neolithic societies in the jungle. If so, muscle definitely wins over fat, as muscle is used when the body calls for immediate action, while fat is shed slowly, over time, and that too while causing the body to shut down.
If you’re saying nature must have had some reason for allowing humans to retain fat, I agree with you, completely. Nature has created this mechanism for harsh winters and in the case of estrangement from the rest of community (like in Life of Pi). But what are the chances of that happening, really?
Therefore, fat is useless, redundant, and for all its uselessness and redundancy, extremely heavy.
Or maybe I am just trying to justify my (and the rest of the society’s) endless struggle to look like Bradley Cooper (or any other People’s magazine’s sexiest man alive).
Whatever. Shed fat, gain muscle.
